The Nevada Northern Railway was the last Nevada Bonanza mining railroad built over a century ago to service what would become one of the largest copper mines in North America. Today this railway is considered the best preserved shortline in the west. Closed to regular freight service in 1983 by Kennecott Copper, this railroad has been preserved in its original condition, from the workshops, station, yards, rolling stock, and motive power. After closure, Kennecott donated a good part of the Nevada Northern to the White Pine Historical Foundation. The Nevadan Northern Railway has been designated by the U.S. Department of the Interior as a National Historic Landmark for its role in the industrial history of the United States.
