| Our private rail cars are on the move most of the year either on scheduled tours and excursions or private charters. These rail cars must be attached on Amtrak trains in order to get into position for the next assignment. We call this Positioning Moves. Tickets are now sold on most Positioning Moves. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to experience first class private rail car travel at great prices. |
Colonial Crafts, a 1949 Pullman sleeper-lounge built for the Pennsylvania Railroad. In addition to an inviting and spacious lounge Colonial Crafts features 3 double bedrooms sleeping two, each room with an annex containing toilet and sink, and a drawing room accommodating up to 3 guests, again with annex containing toilet and sink. Guest amenities include a large shower, and beverage service in the lounge.
Silver Rapids, a 1948 Budd roomette-bedroom sleeper, also built for the Pennsylvania Railroad as its contribution to the California Zephyr equipment pool for transcontinental service. Silver Rapids features eight roomettes accommodating one person each, and six double bedrooms, each accommodating 2 persons. Bedrooms each have an annex containing a toilet and sink; roomettes have a sink in the room. If two couples or a family are traveling together two rooms may be opened ensuite. A shower room has been added. Limited hot and cold beverage service is available.
Silver Lariat, a 1948 Budd Vista-Dome coach built for the California Zephyr, converted to a diner-lounge. 24 deeply cushioned seats in the dome and 42 reclining chairs on the lower level provide a comfortable setting for meals aboard the train as well as for sightseeing.
Silver Solarium, a 1948 Budd Vista-Dome sleeper-lounge-observation car built for the California Zephyr. The observation lounge in the boat-tail of the car is a pleasant place to enjoy the passing scenery as we hurry on our way through the west. Silver Solarium accommodates 24 guests in its Vista-Dome. Sleeping accommodations include 3 double bedrooms, each accommodating 2 guests, and 1 drawing room, accommodating up to 3 guests. The drawing room and bedrooms each have an annex that includes toilet, sink and shower. Under the dome is a bar, which is an excellent spot to gather for a late-night libation.

Enjoy the ambiance of Silver Solarium's observation lounge and Vista-Dome as we travel the magnificent California Zephyr route from Emeryville to Chicago, then proceed on to Washington DC on Amtrak's Cardinal. The Cardinal departs Chicago at 5:45 PM so you have the day to enjoy the sights and sounds of the Windy City. You can use the private rail cars as your hotel in Chicago. Because of popular demand we have now added the Silver Rapids Pullman Sleeper to this excursion. Prices include bedroom accommodations, meals prepared fresh on board and our bar, which features premium labels of beer, wine, and spirits.
July 9-12, 2012 SURE GO-SOLD OUT See the USA as it was meant to be seen, traveling in the grand manner aboard our Vista-Dome! This unique trip will take you from Washington DC to Chicago, Los Angeles, and on to Oakland on a six-day trip you're sure to fondly remember for years to come! Guests will enjoy overnight accommodations aboard Silver Solarium, and our companion sleeper, Silver Rapids. You'll enjoy meals cooked fresh aboard our cars, and of course our bar, featuring premium labels of beer, wine, and spirits. We'll take the Capitol Limited from Washington to Chicago, where it will arrive mid-morning. You'll have the rest of the day, plus the entire morning of the next day to explore the Windy City before we reboard the cars for their trip to Los Angeles on the Southwest Chief. You can use our cars as your hotel while in Chicago. We'll arrive Los Angeles just after breakfast, and you'll have the day to explore the hub of Southern California. Next morning, we head to Oakland on the Coast Starlight, and its 103 miles of central California coastline, much of which cannot be seen except by train or boat.

November 27-28, 2012 SURE GO Board the Vista-Domes and Silver Solarium as they make their annual trek to Seattle, WA to participate in the Leavenworth Snow Trains. Our cars will be added to Amtrak's Coast Starlight train #14. Board at either Jack London Square or Emeryville for a glorious daytime ride over the Oregon Cascades and along the Willamette and Columbia Rivers as we make our way to Seattle. Includes overnight accommodations aboard Silver Solarium and breakfast, luncheon, hors d'Oeuvres and dinner enroute as well as our complimentary bar.
December 23-24, 2012 SURE-GO-SPACE STILL AVAILABLE Board the Vista Domes Silver Solarium and Silver Lariat as they return from Seattle. Our cars will be added to Amtrak's Coast Starlight train #11. Board at Seattle King St Station for a daytime ride along Puget Sound and the Columbia and Willamette Rivers in early winter light. Night falls as we climb the Oregon Cascades where with luck we'll be treated to heavy wet snow blanketing the trees in a storybook setting. Includes overnight accommodations aboard Silver Solarium and breakfast, luncheon, hors d'Oeuvres and dinner enroute as well as our complimentary bar. Oakland and Los Angeles fares are the same.
