TOURIST/RAILFAN TOUR
MAY 14-19, 2012

Trains and Travel International of Reno, Nevada is pleased to announce plans to jointly sponsor and operate "THE GRAND CANYON LIMITED" with the Central Coast Railway Club from Santa Clara, California. After a very successful operation of the Northern California Explorer excursion train in June over the BNSF Inside Gateway plans are moving forward for our next big excursion to Arizona celebrating this states centennial.

Operating plans call for The Grand Canyon Limited to be pulled by the ATSF 3751 4-8-4 steam locomotive from Los Angeles to Arizona via Parker and return. Additional operating plans call for us to double head with the former CB&Q 4960 2-8-2 steam locomotive on the Grand Canyon Railroad between Williams and the South Rim roundtrip.

Plans call for photo run-bys to be made on most days, freight traffic and timing permitting. This 6 day steam excursion will be operated under contract with Amtrak, BNSF, Grand Canyon and the Arizona & California Railroads.

Trains & Travel International is the official reservation agent for this excursion. All reservations and ticket sales must be made through us. The Central Coast Railway Club is in charge of the operating portion of this excursion.

Over the past several weeks we have had to change and revise the day by day itinerary several times to satisfy the operating plans of each railroad. Finally we have come to a plan where all of the railroads involved has agreed upon. We now have a final itinerary that works for everyone. It has been a real challenge to get an itinerary that fits into each railroads operating plans.

BACKGROUND OF THE APPROVAL PROCESS

As originally proposed, the GCL itinerary included operations out of Phoenix. After discussions, it became apparent that we could not turn the train in Phoenix and there was no location for loading and unloading passengers that was satisfactory to BNSF and Amtrak. In the discussions, it also became apparent that there was concern about operating an 86 year old steam locomotive on the BNSF's busy Transcontinental Route of which can see more than 100 freight trains a day that run up to 75mph. Just one delay or stop by a passenger steam excursion can cause a backup of freight trains that can stretch for many miles. At one point, it appeared less than 50/50 that the trip would run at all.

Fortunately, we were able to reach a compromise that minimized our effect on the Transcon. This involves no overnight stop at Barstow, and stopping at division points only to service the 3751. Current plans call for no passenger stops between Los Angeles and Parker.

We are now leaving Los Angeles Union Passenger Terminal on Monday instead of Sunday because a Sunday departure would interfere with freight operations on the Arizona and California Railroad (A&C). Our schedule brings us into Parker at 9 PM. We apologize for the long day, but it can't be helped.

The itinerary and schedule are verbal agreements negotiated by Amtrak and the trip sponsors with the three host railroads. We do not have a contract. All of this is conditional until we have a contract in hand.

                             OPTION VC 1
                            Verde Canyon

This option begins by departing Williams at 8AM by charter motor coach for
the 45 minute ride to Oak Creek Canyon. Rand-McNally named this
panoramic highway through Oak Creek Canyon one of the most beautiful drives
in America, designating it Arizona's first scenic route. Towering trees line
the beds of Oak Creek, whose natural springs are said to have healing powers.
The water winds through mountain shadows to Sedona's famed red rock vistas.

Next we visit Sedona which is situated at the mouth of spectacular Oak Creek
Canyon. Characterized by Massive red-rock formations, as well as the
contrasting riparian areas of Oak Creek Canyon, the area surrounding this
community is considered at least as beautiful as many national parks.

Our next stop is Jerome Historical State Park. A mining town for about 70
years, this little community survives on the sliding-edge of a hillside.
Through the years, many buildings have taken the fall including, at one
point, the town jail. Sporting gorgeous views , the quaint storefronts and
small town ambiance attract multitudes of artists, writers and tourists.
Shops and galleries flourish here, including Nature's Landscapes.

Just a few miles from Jerome is Clarkdale. Running from here to
Perkinsville, the Verde Canyon Railroad is a stress-free wilderness
adventure. The excursion Train departs at 1:00PM. Being onboard makes
your senses come alive. You hear the wheels echo off the canyon walls, feel
the gentle wind kiss your cheek, taste Arizona's special blend of fresh air,
or spy a majestic Bald Eagle effortlessly floating on a breeze calling for
its mate. The train passes towering crimson pinnacles; near ancient Indian
ruins; over fortified trestles; past a monocline fault and through a manmade
680-foot tunnel on a four hour rail journey. The natural splendor of the
Verde Canyon clearly identifies it as a state treasure, as deemed by
Arizona's governor in 2005.

Back onboard our charter motor coach we depart from Clarkdale at 5:30PM
and we will make a no host dinner stop in downtown Clarkdale arriving
back in Williams by 7:45PM.

                             OPTION MC 2
                            Meteor Crater

This option begins by departing Williams onboard our charter motor coach at
8:30AM for the one hour ride to Meteor Crater. This is the world's best
preserved meteorite impact site near Winslow. Meteor Crater is the
breath-taking result of a collision between a piece of an asteroid traveling
at 26,000 miles per hour and planet Earth approximately 50,000 years ago.
Today, Meteor Crater is nearly one mile across, 2.4 miles in circumference
and more than 550 feet deep.

Meteor Crater's "Collisions And Impacts" movie, featuring exciting 3D
modeling and animation allows viewers to experience the thunderous sound and
explosive fury of the meteor's super-heated trip through the Earth's
atmosphere. Then, the spectacular result of the collision that rocked the
American Southwest with the energy of more than 20 million tons of TNT can
be explored first-hand just outside the Visitor Center at Meteor Crater
Arizona.

Only 30 miles east of Meteor Crater is Winslow, Arizona. We will make our lunch
stop at the famous La Posada Hotel which was a Fred Harvey House. You can
watch the BNSF train rolls by as you enjoy lunch. The story of this famous
hotel begins with Fred Harvey, who "civilized the west" by introducing linen,
silverware, china, crystal, and impeccable service to railroad travel. Harvey
developed and ran all the hotels and restaurants of the Santa Fe Railway,
eventually controlling a hospitality empire that spanned the continent. In the
1920s, Harvey decided to build a major hotel in the center of northern Arizona.
"La Posada"-the Resting Place-was to be the finest in the Southwest. They
chose Winslow, the Arizona headquarters for the Santa Fe Railway at La Posada
Hotel

Glance around the hotel and you'll see large, colorful paintings everywhere
-some humorous, some slightly macabre. Tina Mion's art is one of the reasons
why La Posada is so special. This well-known painter has exhibited in museums
around the U.S., including the National Portrait Gallery at the Smithsonian
Institute, the Truman and Eisenhower libraries, and the Hoover Presidential
Library - among many others. The works exhibited in the hotel include many
pieces from her Ladies First series, an insightful retrospective on wives of
American Presidents, as well as a variety of figures. After lunch we head
back west to visit Montezuma Castle National Monument. Located near Camp
Verde, Arizona, in the Southwestern United States, features well-preserved
cliff-dwellings. They were built and used by the Pre-Columbian Sinagua people,
northern cousins of the Hohokam, around 700 AD. Several Hopi clans trace their
roots to immigrants from the Montezuma Castle/Beaver Creek area.

Only 30 minutes from the cliff-dwellings is Jerome Ghost Town State Park.
A mining town for about 70 years, this little community survives on the
sliding-edge of a hillside. Through the years, many buildings have taken
the fall including, at one point, the town jail. Sporting gorgeous views,
the quaint storefronts and small town ambiance attract multitudes of
artists, writers and tourists. Shops and galleries flourish here,

As we start to head back towards Williams we make a no host dinner stop
at Sedona. Situated at the mouth of spectacular Oak Creek Canyon.
Characterized by Massive red-rock formations, as well as the contrasting
riparian areas of Oak Creek Canyon, the area surrounding this community
is considered at least as beautiful as many national parks.

Our last point of interest before returning to Williams is a drive
through spectacular Oak Creek Canyon. Rand-McNally named this panoramic
highway through Oak Creek Canyon one of the most beautiful drives in
America, designating it Arizona's first scenic route. Towering trees
line the beds of Oak Creek, whose natural springs are said to have healing
powers. The water winds through mountain shadows to Sedona's famed red
rock vistas.

We plan to arrival back in Williams around 7:45PM.
