We invite you to ride with us to Dunsmuir and spectacular Mt. Shasta in Northern California to join in on the fun and excitement at the Dunsmuir Railroad Days in the beautiful Sacramento River Canyon of the Southern Cascade Mountains. Travel onboard our private charter 9 car train departing from Emeryville with stops to pick-up passengers in Martinez, Davis and Sacramento. After departing Sacramento our train swings onto the former Western Pacific Route for the run up to Marysville where we swing onto the Shasta Route running over Lake Shasta and into the Sacramento River Canyon. This is a great family event!
On Saturday June 11 we are planning to run a Black Butte Daylight excursion with our trainset that will depart from Dunsmuir in the late afternoon and run north along the base of Mt. Shasta to Black Butte so that we can turn our train on the wye and return to Dunsmuir. This will be approximately a three hour excursion and in the premium California Zephyr cars at the rear of the train we will offer a luxury first class gourmet dinner.
THURSDAY JUNE 9: For those passengers arriving in the Bay Area today and need lodging we have a special group rate at the Woodfin Suite Hotel. This is the closest hotel to the Amtrak Train Station. In fact there is even a walkway running over the tracks from the hotel to the train station. This special rate is available to all of our passengers onJune 9 and June 12. The rate is $104 plus tax for a Traditional and $114 plus tax for a Suite. You must call the hotel directly to make your reservation. Be sure and mention that you want the Trains & Travel International group rate. We are scheduled to depart at 8:00AM. (Subject to change by the railroad) You are welcome to board our excursion at Martinez, Davis or Sacramento. Departing eastbound from the Bay Area our train runs on the former Southern Pacific Route along water's edge of the San Francisco Bay with breathtaking views of the Golden Gate Bridge. As we enter the Carquinez Strait and run under I-80, we will make a stop at Martinez to pick-up passengers. From here the rail route swings east over the Suisun Bay Bridge where you can get a great view of the US Navy's mothball fleet in Grizzly Bay. After leaving the Bay Area it is straight shot to Davis were we will again stop to pick-up passengers. Our next passenger stop will be Sacramento. Shortly after departing Sacramento our train will swing onto the former Western Pacific Route and head north across the Sacramento Valley for Marysville where we switch over to the the Shasta Route. As we make our way north up the Sacramento Valley we will pick up additional passengers at Chico and Redding. After departing Redding the tracks start the climb into the Southern Cascades soon crossing over the Sacramento River on a long high bridge and then over Lake Shasta and through several tunnels before reaching the Sacramento River Canyon. From here all the way to Dunsmuir we follow the scenic Sacramento River. Arrival in Dunsmuir will be at approximately 4:30PM. Passengers with lodging in nearby Shasta City will be bused (extra fare) to the Best Western Tree House for hotel check-in.

DAY 2 SATURDAY JUNE 11: The Dunsmuir Railroad Days celebration will be in full swing for the entire day. Many events and activities are planned including a parade, speeder rides, operating model railroad displays, food, drink, live bands, and rolling stock and diesels on display including a hands on experience to go up into the cab. The Feather River Rail Society, operators of the Western Pacific Railroad Museum in Portola will be running a special display train to Dunsmuir for all to enjoy. EXCURSION AND DINNER TRAIN We have a planned 4:00pm departure from Dunsmuir north through Mt. Shasta to Black Butte to turn our train on the wye track and then return to Dunsmuir. This will be a 46 mile journey through the spectacular Mt. Shasta region and will take approximately 3 hours. You will enjoy breath taking views of Mt. Shasta and Black Butte in the late afternoon sun on this train journey. At the rear of our train on the two California Zephyr dome cars we will be offering a luxury first class gourmet dinner that is prepared fresh onboard by our chefs and served by our uniform professional staff on original California Zephyr linens, fresh cut flowers and fine custom marked china in the grand style of the original California Zephyr streamliner that ran between the San Francisco Bay Area and Chicago and was discontinued in March of 1970. We are offering two options for the dinner train excursion. Coach and Dome class.
