We are pleased to announce that we have again been given the approval to operate a three day charter passenger train over the former Camas Prairie Railroad out of Lewiston, Idaho, now operated by the BG&CM Railroad. As you may recall, we were invited by railroad management to operate the first passenger train over this line in many years back in 2006.
We are now going to offer a repeat performance during the Labor Day Weekend in 2008. We will have the same operating schedule as we did in 2006. Each day we will run our train as far as possible keeping in mind that railroad crews are only allowed to work for 12 hours. At the end of each day we will bus the passengers back to Lewiston for lodging. The next morning we will return to the train by charter buses and continue our journey over as much of the system as possible. We will be able to operate our passenger train over all trackage that is back in service and also has been approved by the railroad under FRA regulations to accommodate an occupied passenger train. Keep in mind because this is a freight only railroad, very strict FRA rules must be followed.
Because the railroad is still being repaired we will not know for sure how many miles we will be able to travel until a couple of weeks before this excursion starts. We do plan to run all or part of the Kooskia, Jaype and Cottonwood lines.
Each day our charter buses will load and depart from the Red Lion Hotel parking lot in Lewiston, Idaho. Departure from the Red Lion parking lot will be at 7:00am August 30, 31 and September 1 with an estimated return each night around 7:00pm. You might want to book your hotel rooms at the Red Lion.
