This is a hard-core trip for rail enthusiasts and rare milage collectors. The consist is a mixed
train on the Arizona Eastern (an ex-Southern Pacific branch running 134
miles from a connection with the “Sunset” line in Bowie, Arizona
northwesterly to the mines and smelter in the Miami area. We expect to
cover all trackage between Bowie and Miami. CONSIST: GP 20 and GP 35,
a number of older freight cars, a rider flat car, caboose, and an ex Long Island Railroad open window coach.

DAY 1 MONDAY MARCH 9: (L) Depart Safford Arizona
train station by bus to Globe, AZ. At Globe, we will
board the train and back up to Miami. At Miami we will reverse direction
and proceed towards Safford, spending the night there. A variety of
photo runbys will be operated en route, some with the coach and some
without. A night photo session is planned at Safford. During part of this day our
charter train will be pulled by a Heisler Steam Locomotive for a distance of 7 miles without diesel power.

DAY 2 TUESDAY MARCH 10: (L) Depart Safford at 8:00am en route to Bowie and the connection with the Sunset Route. At Bowie, we will wye the train and return to Safford where the special terminates. Again, photo runbys will be performed as time permits.
