STEAM IN THE FOOTHILLS

The Central Coast Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society (NRHS) will run a Sierra Railway steam excursion trip out of Railtown 1897 State Historic Park at Jamestown, California on Saturday, October 29, 2016. This excursion will include at least one or more photo run-bys for the photographers.
The planned train consist will be steam locomotive No. 3, a Rogers 4-6-0 built in 1891 and is known as the "Movie Engine", two passenger cars and the open observation No. 2901. The classic heavy weight 2901 was built by Pullman in 1910 for luxury service on Southern Pacific trains such as the "Overland Limited," the car originally had an all wood body and under frame. It was rebuilt with steel sides and under frame in 1928. Its last main line use was on SP's "Suntan Special" to Santa Cruz in the early 1950s. The car was donated to the Central Coast Chapter of National Railway Historical Society in 1956. The Sierra Railroad purchased it in 1971. Steam locomotive 3 has been in well over 150 films, TV program and commercials and will struggle up the 3% grade back to Jamestown.

Open Observation No. 2901
This club excursion includes deluxe charter motorcoach transportation from Caltrain's Santa Clara Depot to Jamestown and back, park entrance fee, roundhouse tour, the charter train excursion and lunch. The motorcoach will depart from Santa Clara at 8:30am and return in the evening. All Trains & Travel International folks are welcome to book on this one day outing. There will be a maximum of only 30 tickets sold.
